Responsibilities

The Communications Manager is responsible for managing the Nile Project’s communications and marketing efforts.

  1. Project Planning & Management
  • Manage both general and program-specific communications
  • Work with Nile Project team to develop and implement a comprehensive plan for all communications efforts across all media channels
  • Supervise all Nile Project communications staff and contractors
  • Ensure timely execution of all communications projects
  • Create and coordinate production schedules and manage relationships with graphic, designers, web designers and printers
  1. Copy
  • Develop and update Nile Project copy across all channels
  • Contract and supervise translators to ensure accurate communication of messages in English, Arabic, Amharic, and Swahili.
  1. Design & Production
  • Ensure brand coherence across all channels according to branding guidelines
  • Supervise graphic and web designers / developers
  1. Online
  • Manage website planning, development, design, and updates
  • Draft and distribute email newsletters to relevant segments
  • Maintain segmented email contact database
  • Develop, plan and execute a cohesive social media strategy
  1. Press
  • Serve as point of contact for media requests and questions including schedules and press kits
  • Write, edit and distribute press releases for Nile Project programs and events
  • Build and maintain media contact database with press lists segmented by sector and region
  • Organize and manage press events logistics
  • Gather media clips and monitor media channels for stories, trends and research related to the Nile Project’s mission
  • Capture, organize and track contact information collected from events
  1. Photo & Video
  • Manage other Nile Project staff in photographing and filming events
  • Source and implement a photo management software system
  • Support the development and implementation of best practices around digital media documentation and manage the Nile Project’s extensive photo, video, and audio libraries
  1. Merchandise
  • Source and manage merchandise items design
  • Manage merchandise design, development, production, sales, shipping, and inventories
  1. Development
  • Work with program staff to create program materials and annual reports
  • Manage membership program communications and perks delivery
  • Assist in developing crowdfunding campaigns

Ensure proper recognition of all funders and sponsors online, in print, and outdoor

Skills & Qualifications

  • Demonstrable experience in communication management
  • Preferable experience in environmental communication
  • Awareness of the environmental and political complexities of the Nile Basin
  • Ability to grasp complex concepts and express them clearly
  • Can demonstrate excitement about and relevance to the Nile Project’s mission
  • Good listener, quick learner and can think on their feet
  • Knows how to learn what they don’t know

Reporting

The Communications Manager will report directly to the Nile Project CEO. Reporting tools will be agreed upon with the CEO in the beginning of his/her mandate.
