The Nile Project’s 1st Gathering took place in Aswan, Egypt from January 10 to 29, 2013. The first four days witnessed a strategic workshop involving entrepreneurs, innovators, and leaders working in fields of relevance to the Nile Project. These conversations and activities served as a prototype for further cross-cultural dialogues integral to the Nile Project’s programs and activities. In the following two weeks, 18 musicians from Uganda, Ethiopia, South Sudan, Sudan, and Egypt collaborated to translate this encounter into a new body of songs. Drawing on their diverse traditions and instruments, the collaboration culminated in Aswan, our debut album.
